About Us

Who We Are

Welcome to Sikeston First! We are a community of people on a journey – just like you. Along the way, we have discovered a love and a purpose in Christ, our Savior, that we cannot find anywhere else. We are a genuine, friendly, and casual family of people who are continually searching for more of God.

Our church is part of a fellowship called the Assemblies of God, which began in the early 1900′s. The Assemblies of God was formed by a group of people that realized a need to organize to be an effective movement to send missionaries worldwide to share God’s Word and plan of salvation.

Our History

Sikeston First Assembly Of God was established in 1939 by Rev. Gayle Jackson following a successful revival campaign he conducted in an open-air tent at the corner of New Madrid and Trotter Streets. A wooden tabernacle was built at that location and the congregation worshipped there until they purchased property at 338 Matthews Street where they built a concrete basement church.

At this location the congregation grew rapidly and land for a bigger facility was purchased at the corner of Kingshighway and Kathleen Streets (the present location). The current worship facilities were built in two phases. The first phase (current educational wing) was built in 1949, the second phase (current sanctuary and basement) was completed in 1956.
